Training designation: First Aid Training Course (EH)
Teaching time: 16 lessons (45 minutes each)

Minimum age: 10 years

- First aid workers in companies
Contents: (Learning targets, theoretical and practical contents)
1. General conduct in case of accidents/emergencies/rescue After these lessons the participants can: - Explain the term “emergency” especially taking into consideration the significance of oxygen for human life
- Explain the statutory and moral obligation for providing assistance
- Estimate own risk situations in emergency situations and initiate adequate own protective measures
- Explain the rescue chain
- Explain various means of reporting and fully deal with an emergency using these
- State the right emergency numbers
- Adequately secure an accident scene
- Rescue injured persons from vehicles
- Rescue injured persons from a dangerous area
- Place a blanket under lying patients
- Carry out measures for mental support

2. Establishing contact / checking the vital functions After these lessons the participants can - Systematically apply principle measures in emergency situations
- Control the consciousness of a person concerned and assess this with regard to life-threatening situations
- Check the breathing of the person concerned and assess this with regard to life-threatening situations
- Control the circulation and/or assess vital signs with regard to life-threatening situations
- Properly support injured persons

3. Interferences to the consciousness After these lessons the participants can - Assess risks in case of unconsciousness
- Carry out a recovery position
- Remove the helmet from unconscious motorcyclists
- Recognise a stroke and carry out corresponding measures
- Recognise convulsions caused by the brain and carry out corresponding measures

- Special own and third party protection in case of convulsions (AD)
4. Interferences to breathing and circulation After these lessons the participants can - Carry out life-saving measures in case of foreign body aspiration
- Recognise interferences to breathing and carry out corresponding measures
- Recognise accidents caused by electrical current and carry out corresponding measures
- Recognise heart attack and angina pectoris and carry out corresponding measures
- Confidently recognise respiratory and cardiac arrest
- Carry out heart-lung-resuscitation (1-helper method)
Practial contents - Removal of foreign bodies (blow between the shoulder blades AD)
- Control of consciousness, breathing and circulation/vital signs (TÜ)

5. Broken bones, joint injuries After these lessons the participants can - Recognise broken bones and injuries to joints and carry out corresponding measures (in particular simple measures for immobilisation)
Practical contents - Immobilisation using simple aids, arm support with triangle bandage (TÜ)
6. First aid in case of abdominal injuries After these lessons the participants can - Recognise injuries to the abdominal area and carry out corresponding life-saving measures
Practical contents - Position for relaxing the abdominal wall (AD)
7. Wounds, threatening bleeding After these lessons the participants can - Apply principal behaviour in case of wounds
- Treat a wound with available bandages
- Carry out measures in case of foreign bodies in wounds
- Carry out measures in case of foreign bodies on the conjunctiva of an eye and on the eye surface
- Treat nose bleeds
- Recognise critical bleeding and carry out corresponding measures
- Treat amputation injuries
Practical contents - Carry out wound treatment with bandages from the first aid box (AD/TÜ)
- Pressure on the upper arm (TÜ),
- Pressure dressing on the arm (TÜ),
- Pressure dressing on the leg (AD)
- Supply small amputations (AD)
8. First aid in case of shock After these lessons the participants can - Recognise shock and carry out corresponding measures

9. First aid in case of burns/thermal damages After these lessons the participants can - Behave properly in case of burns, in particular with physical burns and initial fires
- Carry out measures for burns
- Recognise sunstroke and carry out corresponding measures
- Recognise hypothermia and carry out corresponding measures
- Recognise frostbites and carry out corresponding measures
