Concrete help in emergencies is described as 'first aid’. Anyone should be in the position to (be able to) do this, who directly observes an emergency or is on site first or is called to an incident as 'first aid worker’. First aid is the skilled application of recognised basic rules for rescuing people in accidents and illnesses with the materials and facilities available under the given circumstances.
In other words: "To give first aid" means: To skilfully apply generally applicable basic rules which promise success... according to the respective situation... for the well-being of the patient....
Anyone can learn first aid! About this there is consensus in the member organisations of SAMARITAN INTERNATIONAL
Not all of the measures which help in emergencies can be derived from words and pictures alone. In the case of essential practical measures it is not just of benefit for the patient if the life-saving and helpful actions are gone through and practised in a practical seminar according to the 'instructions' and under 'observation' in order to be confident in performing these if required. During the exercise the teachers can assist and correct mistakes. The teachers are pleased to confirm after the training: "That is the right way to do it!"
The knowledge thus acquired strengthens your competency for action for borderline cases in life that unexpectedly and suddenly break into everyday life. Everyone hopes that they will not actually be confronted with such emergencies – at least not very often. However, if it is necessary it is good to know how to do it.
The member organisations of SAMARITAN INTERNATIONAL offer to their population first aid trainings with similar features. For this they have defined common standards that are attested by a comparable certificate. |
