European norms for rescue service vehicles
Minimum equipment of the ambulances according to DIN EN 1789
This European norm stipulates definitions, requirements, inspection and equipment for ambulances.
The ambulances are divided into 4 categories:
Type A1 Patient transport ambulance An ambulance, which is designed and equipped for transporting a single patient, who is as foreseeable not an emergency patient.
Type A2 Patient transport ambulance An ambulance, which is designed and equipped for transporting one or several patients (on stretcher (s) or wheelchair (s)), who are as foreseeable not emergency patients.
Type B Emergency ambulance An ambulance which is designed and equipped for transporting, initial care and monitoring of patients.
Type C Rescue vehicles An ambulance which is designed and equipped for transporting, extended treatment and monitoring of patients.
